The History Islands newsletter and website are produced by Open Page Learning Ltd which is registered with the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (JOIC) registration number 70929.

Open Page Learning Ltd is a “Data Controller”, which means we are responsible for deciding how we hold and use personal information.

We will comply with data protection law, the principles of which says that the personal information we hold about you must be:-

1. Used lawfully, fairly and in a transparent way.
2. Collected only for valid purposes that we have clearly explained to you and not used in any way incompatible with those purposes.
3. Relevant to the purposes we have told you about and limited only to those purposes.
4. Accurate and kept up to date.
5. Kept your data only as long as necessary for the purposes we collected it.
6. Kept securely.

What information do we collect?

Your name and email address, where you have voluntarily provided us with this information by signing up to the History Islands newsletter, making a payment or donation or contacting us in some other form.

We may also receive and hold further information when you disclose it to us in the course of using our services, such as:

  • any profile data you share with us, including profile pictures, gender, marital status, interests, preferences, feedback, survey responses, etc.
  • information shared with us when you contact us for assistance or support
  • your billing information when you subscribe or donate to the newsletter and transaction records of payments made to or from you in relation to such services
  • your marketing and communications preferences, which includes your preferences about receiving marketing from us or third parties, and the ways in which you prefer to be contacted

We may also collect contact information when you communicate with us through certain channels of communication, such as:

  • your email address when you communicate with us through email
  • your mailing address when you communicate with us by post
  • your social media handle when you communicate with us by social media

We may also collect or have access to technical information aggregated from all our users, such as:

  • browser type and version
  • device type
  • time zone, country, and city
  • operating system and platform
  • user demographics and statistical data
  • other aggregated data about the devices and software used to access our website and services.

Third parties

We use the Ghost website and emailing platform and have a data protection agreement with them. We use a third party provider, PayPal, to take donations and/or subscription payments and their privacy policy is here.

Access to your personal information

You may request details of the personal information we hold about you by making a ‘subject access request’ under the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.

You need to make a request in writing to us at 9 Bond Street, St Helier JE2 3NP and if we do have personal information about you we will respond by describing the information we have, telling you why we are holding it and what we do with it.

Data protection and security

Any personal information we hold about you is stored securely and processed under our data protection obligations as specified in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.

If you believe that any information we hold on you is incorrect or incomplete or you wish us to delete any information we hold, please write or email us at the address below with your request and the correct details. We will update our information promptly.

If you change your mind about receiving emailed information (newsletters) from us, you can easily do so by:

  • Unsubscribing from the next mailing you receive, using the Unsubscribe link at the foot of the email
  • Email us directly at pauldarrochjsy@gmail.com
